I have been lucky enough to spend a total of six weeks with KKS over the past year, for an initial two weeks work experience in summer 2019, returning for a work placement September 2020 for a further four weeks. I was instantly welcomed into the team and learnt so much about all aspects of the workplace design and strategy industry. Having just graduated in July, I was pleased to be given the opportunity to develop my skills in a proper working environment. I helped put presentations together for clients, investigated post-COVID workplace strategies, converted workshop data into visuals and graphics and joined panels to listen to industry experts discuss the future of the workplace. I feel very grateful to KKS for helping me gain such invaluable experience, which ultimately set me up to get my first job in the industry.
I have just started my new role as a Junior Designer for Woodalls Design, and look forward to crossing paths with KKS again soon in this fascinating industry.
During the two weeks that Hugo was with KKS in February 2017, followed by a one month period in July 2019, he worked on small tasks initially revolving around getting to know how KKS approached projects. Since leaving KKS and graduating from Westminster School of Architecture with BArch Architecture (RIBA I), Hugo has been in Copenhagen progressing his career and experience with local and international firms. Firstly, Henning Larsen, a traditionally Scandinavian firm of 300 employees worldwide and then with Mikkelsen, a small studio specialising in construction and sustainable manufacturing and followed by urban design consultancy Gehl, working on master planning and city user analysis across all continents.
Hugo is currently completing his full architectural training in Aarhus, Denmark and will graduate in 2021.
Elena’s work experience was in the summer of 2016, after her GCSEs. Elena loved her time at KKS and her final project presentation showed it: she produced a 34-page document filled with research, hand sketches and 3D models. Elena progressed her creative passion by studying Art, Media, Performing Arts and Drama at 6th Form. Taking advice from various colleagues at KKS, Elena decided to undertake a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design specialising in Moving Image at the University for the Creative Arts, once finishing her A levels. In September 2019, she started a BA (Hons) Illustration degree at the University for the Creative Arts.
Elena recently commenced her second year at university and has been asked to be the student rep for her year group.
Callum was a student with KKS in the summer of 2013, which was just after he had completed his GCSEs. He then returned later that summer as an intern for an additional 3 weeks of work. Callum’s experience at KKS and guidance from Katrina was instrumental in helping Callum secure further work experience placements at WSP and CH2M; at this point in time, his aim was to pursue a career in civil engineering.
Callum has just graduated from a Masters in Manufacturing Engineering at Cambridge University and ended up pivoting away from civil engineering after two summer internships with Mott MacDonald. In summer 2018, Callum completed an internship with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and accepted a full-time position in their London office, starting in January 2020.
